Cheesy Patty Melt Recipe inspiration @JoshuaWeissman Ingredients: Serves 3 1 lb ground beef 80/20 1 yellow onion 1 tsp sugar 1 tsp fresh thyme; optional 3 slices American cheese 3 slices cheddar cheese 9 slices sourdough bread 2 Tbsp butter Sauce ingredients 2/3 cup mayo 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard 3 Tbsp ketchup 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese 1 Tbsp sweet relish 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp smoked paprika 2 cloves grated garlic salt & pepper to taste In a bowl, add all ingredients and whisk until combined. Set aside. Then shape your beef into 6 even balls. In a frying pan over medium heat, add oil, onions and sugar. Season with salt and cook until caramelized, stirring occasionally, about 15-20 minutes. In a frying pan toast your bread with butter. You can also use a toaster. (I didn't toast my bread enough) Heat a cast iron skillet over medium high heat for 3-4 minutes. Then add two beef balls and smash with the back of a spatula wrapped in aluminum foil. Season with salt and pepper, then flip and add cheddar cheese to one and American to the other. Stack you patties and place on a plate. To assemble, add sauce to the bottom slice of bread, then place the patties and a generous layer of caramelized onions on top. Sauce your other slice of bread and top your sandwich. Enjoy!
