A delicious pan pizza recipe featuring homemade tomato sauce and seasoned Italian sausage, topped with mozzarella and pepperoni, cooked in a cast iron skillet.
1. Preheat oven to 500°F.
2. **For the Tomato Sauce:** Bring a pan to medium high heat. Add olive oil and saute your sliced garlic until lightly brown, about 1-2 minutes. Then add your crushed tomatoes, basil, salt, and pepper. Turn the heat to low and let simmer for 10 minutes.
3. **For the Italian Sausage:** In a medium bowl, add your parsley, thyme, rosemary, oregano, red pepper flakes, fennel, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, 2 Tbsp olive oil, and 1 tsp salt. Mix well to form a paste. Then add your ground pork and mix well using your hands. Set aside in the fridge.
4. **To Assemble the Pizza:** To a cast iron skillet, add a generous drizzle of olive oil and your pizza dough. Spread your pizza dough edge to edge.
5. Next, add tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese (make sure to sprinkle some around the edge of the pan).
6. Then add pepperoni and little pieces of your Italian sausage mixture.
7. Tear some fresh basil over the top. Place in your preheated oven and cook for 12-17 minutes or until everything is brown and caramelized.
8. Slice and enjoy!
